Yadkin Valley Wine RegionThe Yadkin Valley Wine Region is nestled in the foothills of the famous Blue Ridge Mountains along the meandering Yadkin River. When visiting, the best place to start from is in Elkin, NC located just 40 miles west of Winston-Salem and 65 miles north of Charlotte. Follow the vine as it winds through some of the most picturesque towns in North Carolina. The Yadkin Valley Wine Region is a unique collection of about Three Dozen Vineyards, each ready to welcome you with hospitality and exceptional award winning wines. To fully enjoy the Wine Region, plan a few weekends to experience all that each winery has to offer. We invite you to explore this site and see where the vine leads you. You'll find more than just great wine! Located in northwestern North Carolina, the Yadkin Valley is home to North Carolina's first federally-recognized American Viticultural Area, the Yadkin Valley AVA. This AVA encompasses 1.4 million acres, including all of Surry, Wilkes, and Yadkin counties and portions of Stokes, Davie, Davidson and Forsyth counties. Each winery is different. Small to medium in size, all proud of their well crafted red and white wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Viognier.You will find sparkling wines, native muscadine grapes and European-style vinifera, and even some beautifully made fruit wines. This young, thriving industry has recently become well known for its prize winning wines across the nation. Throughout the year there are special events such as Pumpkin Festivals BalloonFests, and Moonshine Rallies. Scattered along within the wine region are many special attractions, lodgings, B&B's and restaurants. While visiting the traveler could see a thoroughbred horse farm, Alpaca Farm, exciting nature trails through the majestic Stone Mountain Park, an road side fruit and vegetable markets to delight all the senses.
